Words From The Attic... The Man

I just found this tribute.
I penned it back in 1981 for none other than

Harry died on July 16, 1981.

He was driving on the
Long Island Expressway
heading to the Lakeside Theater
to perform at a free benefit concert.

I loved his music.
Especially the live album...

The piece I wrote is full of heartfelt
words and thoughts.
Along with some of Harry's lyrics,
and even a verse by AC/DC

Very glad that I found this one!!

The Man

And she said... how are ya Harry?
I said... how are ya Sue?
After too many miles
And the too little smiles
I... still remember you! H.C.

A man can live
And a man can die
We criticize his work
But never to stop
And wonder why

Well this is for all the people
Who just don't know
That life is just one big
Picture show

He gave us pleasure
With the music he made
He gave us answers
To the worlds' charade

Two kids and a wife
Now know the meaning
Of the word loss
Now more than ever
They must pull together
To keep their life on course

We must learn to love
What we have now
For once it is gone
You will never be able
To love it again
I feel for the people
Who don't have what I have
People to love

You can show your love
In many ways
Whatever your way is
Don't stop
EVER

A child arrived just the other day.
He came to the world in the usual way.
But there were planes to catch
And bills to pay
He learned to walk while I was away.
He was talkin' before I knew it
And as he grew
He said...
I'm gonna be like you dad
Ya know I'm gonna be like you! H.C.

He showed us what we were doing wrong
Not that he was always right
But he was trying
I respect that
If you don't
Then turn away without no say

He did what made him happy

A lot more than I can say
For a lot of other people

If you're livin' on the streets
You've gotta practice what you preech
'Cause it's a Rock-n-Roll damnation AC/DC

Harry Chapin...
Me... I'm flyin' in my taxi
Takin' tips
And gettin' stoned H.C.

Rock-n-Roll heaven is joined
By yet another great
Harry Chapin
The Man
The Stories
The Thoughts

He said what he felt
And he said it well
We'll miss him
And will treasure his work

A tribute to a man and his music

The words will never change...
