THE WHO... Who Are You (lost verse included)... Song of the Moment

Song of the Moment

This song...

This fucking song!

The WHO Roger Keith Pete John

The Who put this album out back
in 1978, I was a junior in Port Richmond
high school, Staten Island, New York.
And the world was ours for the taking!

The Who, and this album,
just resonated with me and with everyone
that I hungout with at that time.
Strange how something so simple as an album,
or, even just a song,
can unite an entire neighborhood.
If only for the length of that tune,
is just so amazing to me.

That link below of the song incorporates a
lost verse that wasn't in the official release.
That version of the song
eventually was released
in the re-mastered version
of the album.

The official release had the official verse.
And the other version had the lost verse.
So it was one or the other.
But the person who posted the link on youtube
has dubbed the lost verse
into the official released version.
So you get to hear it all in one shot.

And it's so cool to hear Roger singing
different words to a song that you've probably sung
out loud a hundred times before... times ten!
It's WAY too cool!

The WHO are:

Pete Townshend
Roger Daltrey
John Entwistle
Keith Moon

With support over the years from:

Zak Starkey... drums
Kenny Jones... drums
Simon Phillips... drums
Simon Townshend... guitar/vocals
John "Rabbit" Bundrick... keyboards
Pino Palidino... bass

Who Are You album cover 1978
Love this album cover!
It had such a "behind the scenes" feel to it for me. We always get to see
the polished, finished product up on stage and not the mess that I'm sure
is there behind the lights and glamour staring back at us.
They had Keith sit on the chair like that at the last minute as the
rock 'n roll life he was leading began catching up, and he now carried
with him an over-indulgent paunch of a belly. It was just pure coincidence
the chair had "NOT TO BE TAKEN AWAY" painted on it,
as Keith passed away on September 7, 1978, less than a month
after the release of the album on August 18, 1978!

Who Are You album cover outtake 1978... now you know why they had Keith sitting in the chair... take a look at his belly full'a beer. He was still the best ever!! Long Live Rock!!

Tommy Mondello's WHO ticket stub 1979 MSG
We were lucky enough to get tickets to see the band when they decided
to tour after the release of the album and the death of Keith.
Kenny Jones was playing drums at this point.
That's my ticket stub from the show.
Remember how they used to rip your tickets?
Now they just scan fuckin' everything!
Back then, you had to mail in your money and request tickets. Crazy right?!
So you had no idea where you would be sitting, if you got the tickets at all.
Nothing like today right?? And look at the price... $12.50
Last time I saw The Who a few years ago, face value was $254.00

(Pete Townshend)

(( Lyrics ))

Who are you
Who who... who who
Who are you
Who who... who who
Who are you
Who who... who who
Who are you
Who who... who who

I woke up in a Soho doorway
A policeman knew my name
He said...
You can go sleep at home tonight
If you can get up and walk away
I staggered back to the underground
And the breeze blew back my hair
I remembered throwing punches around
And preachin' from my chair

Well who are you

Who are you

Who who... who who

I really wanna know

Who are you

Who who... who who

Tell me who are you

Who are you
Who who... who who

Cause I really wanna know

Who are you
Who who... who who

I used to check my reflection
 Jumping with my cheap guitar
I must have lost my direction
Cause I ended up a superstar
One-nighters in the boardroom
 Petrify the human brain
You can learn from my mistakes
But'cha posing in the glass again

Well who are you

Who are you
Who who... who who

I really wanna know

Who are you
Who who... who who

Tell me who are you

Who are you
Who who... who who

Cause I really wanna know

Who are you
Who who... who who

I took the tube back outta town
Back to the rolling pin
I felt a little like a dying clown
With a streak of Rin Tin Tin
I stretched back and I hiccuped
And looked back on my busy day
Eleven hours in the tin pan (can)
(From Shea 1982)
God there's got to be another way

Well who are you

Who are you
Who who... who who

Ooooh who are you

Who are you
Who who... who who

C'mon tell me who are you

Who are you
Who who... who who

Aaar who the fuck are you

Who are you
Who who... who who

Whooooo... are you

Who are you
Who who... who who
Who are you
Who who... who who
Who are you
Who who... who who
Who are you
Who who... who who

I really wanna know

Who are you
Who who... who who

I really wanna know

Who are you
Who who... who who

C'mon tell me who are you

Who are you
Who who... who who

Oh I really wanna know

I know there's a place you walked
Where love falls from the trees
My heart is like a broken cup
I only feel right on my knees
I spill out like a sewer hole
Yet still receive your kiss

How can I measure up to anyone now

After such a love as this

Well who are you

Who are you

Who who... who who

C'mon tell me who are you

Who are you

Who who... who who

Oh I really wanna know

Who are you
Who who... who who

Tell me tell me who are you

Who are you
Who who... who who

C'mon c'mon... who

Who are you
Who who... who who

Waaa who the fuck are you

Who are you
Who who... who who

Who are you

Who are you
Who who... who who

Aaar tell me who are you

Who are you
Whoooooo

I really wanna know
Oh I really wanna know
C'mon tell me who are you... you... you
Aaaw... you

Here's a very cool video of The Who in studio

recording Who Are You with Keith on drums

Here's some very cool behind the scene's footage

of the band rehearsing WHO ARE YOU
with Kenny Jones on drums.
This was the tour I saw with my ticket stub
up above. Too cool right!

The Who on stage kicking ass! And yes of course the pic was "doctored"... as amazing as Pete is... even he can't jump THAT fucking high... lol. Still a great photo.
You can just FEEL IT... cant'cha!!!
